Smriti Mandhana Creates History: Fastest and Youngest Woman to Reach 5,000 ODI Runs

In a landmark moment for Indian cricket, Smriti Mandhana etched her name among the greats by becoming the fastest and youngest woman to reach 5,000 runs in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs). The elegant left-hander achieved this historic feat during India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Australia at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Mandhana reached the milestone with a trademark six over long-on off Australian seamer Kim Garth, in the 21st over of India’s innings. The crowd erupted in celebration as the scoreboard flashed “Smriti Mandhana — 5,000 ODI Runs.” It wasn’t just another record; it was the culmination of years of consistency, grace, and dominance on the world stage.


A Milestone of Determination and Class

Smriti Mandhana achieved the 5,000-run mark in just 112 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor, who took 129 innings. The achievement makes her the fastest woman cricketer in history to accomplish the feat.

  • With this milestone, she is now only the second Indian woman (after Mithali Raj) and the fifth woman overall to reach 5,000 WODI runs

  • Across all cricket (men & women), she is now the third-fastest to 5,000 ODI runs — trailing behind Babar Azam (97 innings) and Hashim Amla (101 innings). 

  • She also eclipsed Virat Kohli’s mark for the fastest Indian (men or women) to 5,000 ODI runs — Mandhana’s 112 innings is two fewer than Kohli’s 114.
